Separating Art from the Artist

7:00 PM - 8:30 PM
Elmhurst Public Library
Off-Site

Event Details

#MeToo has shined a spotlight on sexual misconduct in Hollywood, the media and politics, where powerful men have fallen rapidly. But the music world has lagged behind. If we sing along to Michael Jackson or R. Kelly, are we muting those who accuse them of abuse and assault? Can we really separate the art from the artist? Should we?

Join Sound Opinions hosts Jim DeRogatis and Greg Kot and producer Ayana Contreras as they explore questions about the responsibility we bear for enjoying—or failing to speak out about—troubling themes in an artist’s work. Following a presentation, the audience will be invited to join the conversation to ensure all points of view are given a platform.
